Global Action starts its first Teacher Training Program

This April Global Action started it first Teacher Training program.  We have found that in Nepal like many 3rd world countries the education system that trains teachers is adequate, but lacking many qualities to take students to the next level.  Our students often are the first in their families to go to school and many dropout and end up following in their parent’s work which is usually subsistent farming.  If we are to bring Nepal’s education to the next level and give these children a chance to go to college we need to start with the teachers.  Our original plan was to fly Dr. Cynthia Lilya to Nepal to do the training, but her flights for two days in a row were canceled.  We ended up working with Ramji Adhikari, the founder of Manasewa Ashram who had been doing training already.  His focus was to work on motivation, leadership and team building for a start.  As you will see with the photographs of the training he was exposing these teachers to something new and exciting. For them this was the first extra training they had been given since leaving school and the week experiences were very challenging in some ways and in the end transforming. The teachers were paid for their time, their lodging and food was covered and it was a great success. They also learned new skills and learned about their own abilities to be able to reach their students.
